Today the Senior Class went to the 'Mega Mitre 10 Tough Kids' Day in Invercargill. We joined with 1200 other year 3-8 students to have a hot fun time. As you can see it was great fun with lots of diverse challenges.

Yesterday was pet day. It was so great to see all our family pets, and parents at school. Thanks to Kyla, Evie, Emma, and Erika for the great job that they did with running the day, and them all and Jake for organising everything.

Rebecca also learnt how to use a sewing machine to make a cushion. She even made buttonholes and sewed on buttons.

Last week we went to watch St Marys Production, which was very cool. On the way we called in to Christie Diamond Auto to sing Doug "True Kiwi Way" because he has sponsored our school on the 'ParentTeacherCalendarApp".

Arizona has finished her Genius Hour sewing with the help of Mrs Cross. She now knows about patterns, sewing straight, and making button holes.

These stunning lads have all been Eastern soccer representatives this term. They have played in a range of tournaments each weekend recently.

Duncan and Josh created this town during genius hour.

We have now been swimming for 8 lessons. Everyone has improved so much. Today the top group were learning how to get their breast stroke kicks more accurate.
Today we did some writing outside observing things from a place where we were sitting. Everyone did a great job with lots of specific language, but we've just posted a few here.

From where I am

From where I am, a row of pine trees dances around in the wind.

From where I am, I can see a magpie hunting brown worms in the paddock.

From where I am, patches of dirt lie in the green grass where grass grubs have lived.

From where I am, the Hokonui Hills are big, but dry.

From where I am
From where I am, a young sparrow is swooping majestically from tree to tree.
From where I am I see the bright sun piercing through the dark looming cloud.
From where I am, I can hear the native birds cackling noisily.
From where I am, I can hear the crashing wind whipping through the waving branches.

From where I am
From where I am, a group of lambs waits silently with their mother.
From where I am, I can see the tombstone of a once happy boy.
From where I am, the wind blows bits of my sandy blonde hair.
From where I am I hear the distant baas of little lambs.
From where I am, I gaze dreaming of a far off land.

From where I am

From where I am a single leaf sprouts from a tree telling me its spring.
From where I am, I can see the fresh green paddocks from the farm nearby.
From where I am, I can feel the cold westerly wind hitting my face, sending goosebumps down my legs.
From where I am I hear the loud thumping feet of the Middle class in their room.

From where I am

From where I am, a small bird I cannot name flutters from branch to branch high in the trees singing a sweet never ending song.
From where I am, I can see rough bark covering an old tree and moss drapes around it like a cosy coat.
From where I am, green leaves let out a strong fresh smell as the wind passes through them.
From where I am a blanket of dry leaves, sticks, and dirt cover the earths surface, making soft crunching sounds as I step on it.

During Genius Hour today, William and Jake finished a go-kart that they've been making with Regan and Nathan with supervision from Mr Bruce.

This term we have been holding Genius Hour for a an hour each week. During this time each student chose their own project to work on. They had to choose a topic, research it, record evidence of thinking and creating, and present the final findings to the school at the end of term.

JB chose to explore art techniques, and he has created a painting.

These are some examples of the writing we did today in class based on a poem called " As Long as..." There were so many good ones to choose from.

As long as…

As long as the sun shines

There will be fields of bright daffodils.

As long as winds blow

Leaves on trees will flutter.

As long as water flows

There will be a cool river to dive into on a hot day.

As long as rain falls

There will be wet rugby fields to get muddy on.

As long as the earth spins

A new day will begin.

As long as the moon glows

It gives the darkness an eerie feeling.

As long as oceans move

Waves will roll onto sun baked beaches.

As long as clouds roam

Birds will soar in the sky.

By Jake

AS LONG AS…

As long as the sun shines

People will smile.

As long as the wind blows

The leaves will join my picnic.

As long as water flows

The fish will make that funny sound.

As long as rain falls

There will be rainbows.

As long as earth spins

There will be another day.

As long as the moon glows

The wolves will howl.

As long as oceans move

There will always be sharks.

As long as clouds roam

People will see pictures.

By Duncan

AS LONG AS…

As long as the sun shines

Kids will play with water guns.

As long as the wind blows

Thistle down will fly.

As long as water flows

We’ll go fishing.

As long as rain falls

Crops will grow.

As long as earth spins

The moon will make the tides gravitate.

As long as the moon glows

Bon-fires will be lit.

As long as oceans move

We will catch fish.

As long as clouds roam

Rain will fall and make puddles.

By Regan

AS LONG AS…

As long as the sun shines

Kids will drink fizzy lemonade.

As long as the wind blows

Pigeons will scatter.

As long as water flows

Fathers will go diving for crayfish.

As long as rain falls

Gigantic waterfalls will tumble over mountains.

As long as earth spins

New days will begin.

As long as the moon glows

A cheeky kea will slide down the boat cover.

As long as oceans move

We will jump the waves.

As long as clouds roam

You can lie on the grass and gaze.
